Instructions:

STEP ONE: Trace and Cut

  1. Use a white chalk pencil to trace two 3” circles onto the black craft felt. Plain white chalk or a white crayon will also work.
  2. Carefully cut out the circles with scissors, trimming inside the lines for a clean finish.
  3. Loosen the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop and separate the inner and outer hoops.

STEP TWO: Prepare the Felt

  1. Layer the red felt on top of the black felt, with 4” of black at the top and 3” of red at the bottom.
  2. Fit the layered felt loosely into the embroidery hoop. Pull the felt gently from the back to ensure it’s taught, then tighten the screw at the top of the hoop.

STEP THREE: Secure the Felt

  1. Trim the excess felt from the back of the embroidery hoop with scissors.
  2. Apply a thin line of glue with a glue gun to the cut edge of the felt to secure it in place. Alternatively, use liquid craft glue, but wait for it to dry.

STEP FOUR: Paint the Hoop

  1. Paint the top and front edge of the embroidery hoop with black acrylic craft paint. Allow it to dry and apply a second coat if necessary.
  2. Paint the bottom and front edge of the embroidery hoop with red acrylic craft paint. Let it dry and apply a second coat if needed.

STEP FIVE: Add Buttons

  1. Thread black embroidery floss through the holes of each yellow button. Secure the floss at the back with a knot and trim the tails.
  2. Insert a piece of scrap paper into the pocket to prevent glue from seeping through.
  3. Attach the yellow buttons to the top edge of the red felt pocket using a glue gun.

STEP SIX: Attach Mickey’s Ears

  1. Glue Mickey’s ears to the top right and top left of the embroidery hoop, using the metal screw as the center point.
  2. Flip the hoop over and secure the ears to the back with glue.
  3. Optionally, finish the back with a circle of red or black craft felt for a polished look.
